Kumari Kandam [Editorial Illustration]

Illustration.

The overall colour is dominated by blue since the article mentions about the underwater myth of Pandyan times called Kumari Kandam. It is a submerged civilisation where ancient Indian civilisation once was. So, the whole scene for this illustration is underwater which is why blue is the main colour. In the foreground are some of the Indian ocean coral reefs which are colourful as well. The size of these corals is huge since it is in the foreground which frames the middle ground. In the bottom right corner is skull of a lemur skull which was found in the ocean as well during the search for this sunken civilisation. There are Indian ocean fishes and sea creatures such as tiger shark, dark-banded fusiliers, Moorish idol, sea nettle, blue ringed angelfish, and blue ringed octopus. A scuba diver is present to represent that this topic is still a debate for archaeologist and people are still researching to prove this myth wrong. The sculpture shown in this is God Ganesha who is in the middle ground with growing moss. The cave like place in the back is a temple inspired by Pandyan architecture as well. The importance of stipple brush is to implify the texture of the sculpture and water texture. The light rays are gradient rectangle that were blurred. The background is blurred as it is at the back and is not focused.
